MFA Playwright Lauren Ferebee's play Every Waiting Heart to premiere at Artemisia Theatre in 2020
Artemisia's Spring 2020 production will be the World Premiere of EVERY WAITING HEART, by Lauren Ferebee. Austin Dean Ashford's new play, (I)sland T(rap), has been recognized by the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival in a number of categories, including the Harold and Mimi Steinberg National Student Playwriting Award, the Hip Hop Theatre Creator Award, and earned a certificate for Distinguished Achievement by the Lorraine Hansberry Playwriting Award. >Read More.
Work by 1st Year MFA Actor Tia Ade will be presented abstract at SETC Theatre Symposium
Tia Ade's abstract paper "Whose God: Differences in the Use of Spirituality in Theatre Between Multi-Generation and First Generation African American Playwrights" has been selected for presentation at the Southeastern Theatre Conference's 25th annual Theatre Symposium. Papers selected to be presented at the conference are reviewed by the editorial board, further edited, and published in the next addition of Theatre Symposium, a scholarly journal published annually by the University of Alabama Press. The conference will be held in Decatur, Georgia on April 22-24, 2016. This year's theme is "Cross Cultural Dialogue on the Global Stage."
MFA Lighting Design Student Jacob Hofer to participate in Young Designer's Forum at USITT
Jacob Hofer, third-year Master of Fine Arts Lighting design candidate, is one of 15 students
invited to this highly competitive design forum. Hofer will present a retrospective
of his design work and receive one-on one critiques by an invited panel of elite professional
designers and directors from across the country and abroad. Hofer is only the second
participant from the U of A and the first Lighting Designer to receive this high honor.
