AUDITION OPEN FOR SUMMER INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY FOR UNDERGRADS
VALDEZ THEATRE CONFERENCE: JUNE 7-14 2025, VALDEZ, AK
The University of Arkansas Department of Theatre offers internship opportunities at the Valdez Theatre Conference in Valdez, AK, June 7-14, 2025. Internships are available for up to two undergrad actors with tech experience and/or playwriting interest. One need not be a performance major to audition.
All students interested in becoming an intern must interview/audition with Professor Ben Corbett. Interview/audition dates are Nov 7 and 8, 2024 in Ben’s office, rm 623 in Kimpel Hall. Morning and afternoon times available on the 7th. Only afternoon times available on the 8th. Auditions will consist of one to two one-minute contemporary pieces, followed by an interview. Prospective interns must bring headshot and resume to the audition.
INTERNSHIP DETAILS
Interns will be cast in various play-readings throughout the week, and be required to participate in the Monologue Workshop and its performance on the final Saturday of the conference. Interns may also perform in the Fringe Festival in the evenings and attend workshops/classes. Mainstage shows are free and open to all participants, including interns. Interns will run various boards and laptops, as play readings and their feedback sessions are broadcast on Zoom and YouTube. Interns will also help set up the conference, work at the information table, and help tear down the conference after the Saturday evening award ceremony and banquet. Other duties concerning the daily running of the festival may be required.
Conference fees are waived for interns. Interns will receive free housing throughout the conference. The conference also provides a lunch each day at no charge. Selected interns are responsible for travel to and from Valdez, AK. Selected interns will be provided with information concerning travel stipends from various agencies.

The Valdez Last Frontier Theatre Conference strives to create an educational experience for playwrights, actors, directors, and theatre enthusiasts that enriches participants’ minds and inspires their souls. Participants are completely immersed in the theatre arts for seven days, with a blend of performances, developmental readings, classes, and social events.
The Conference gives a venue for playwrights to present their work in the Play Lab, where they receive feedback from theatre professionals and their peers, and have the opportunity to network with actors and other writers.
It is vital for the state’s theatre community to embrace the story tellers who are speaking about the unique experience of living in the Alaska. The Conference is dedicated to fostering playwrights and the presentation of new works by Alaskans.
