Auditions for Spring  2027 Theatre Productions

 The  Department of Theatre will hold general auditions for our Spring 2027 Productions at Nadine Baum Studios (505 W. Spring Street) on Wednesday, October 14. In alignment with the Department of Theatre’s Inclusive Casting Resolution, we strongly encourage all current students to audition: theatre majors, minors, and non-majors!

  • What: Auditions for Spring 2027 University Theatre Productions (Come from Away and 1984)
  • When: Wednesday, October 14, 5:00-10pm
    • Call-backs: Will be held on the evenings of October 15, 16, 21 and 22. (Please hold availability for all of those potential callback dates.)
  • Where: Nadine Baum Studios (505 West Spring Street)
COME FROM AWAY:  Music and lyrics by Irene Sankoff and David Hein
  • Directed by Morgan Hicks; Music Directed by Jason Burrow
  • Rehearsal Period: January 18 –February 17, 4:30-8:30pm (additional coaching likely to begin during winter break via zoom)
  • Tech rehearsals: February 18-25 (5:30-9:30pm, 10am-8pm on the Saturday)
  • Performance Dates: February 26-March 7
  • Venue: University Theatre
  • Come From Away is based on the true story of the time when the isolated community of Gander, Newfoundland, played host to the world. What started as an average day in a small town turned into an international sleepover, when 38 planes, carrying thousands of people from around the globe, were diverted to Gander’s airstrip on September 11, 2001.
1984: Based on the novel by George Orwell, adapted by Nick Hern
  • Directed by Kholoud Sawaf
  • Rehearsal Period: February 22–April 8, 4:30-8:30pm
  • Tech rehearsals: April 9- April 15 (5:30-9:30pm, 10am-8pm on the Saturday)
  • Performance Dates: April 16-25
  • Venue: Global Campus Theatre
  • Step into a world where truth is fragile, freedom is forbidden, and every thought is watched. This gripping stage adaptation of George Orwell’s 1984 pulls you into the chilling heart of Big Brother’s regime — a place where love is rebellion, and reality is whatever the Party says it is. Intense, immersive, and disturbingly relevant, 1984 will leave you questioning everything you think you know.

TO AUDITION --  STEP ONE: PREPARE

  • For your audition package, please prepare 2 contrasting monologues totaling up to 3 minutes in length OR 1 monologue and 1 Song totaling 3 minutes in length
  • Please bring sheet music in a binder for Jason to accompany you on the piano (preferred) or you are welcome to use a recorded accompaniment track (a speaker with aux cord will be provided). Song can be from the show OR of the genre

*If you are unable to attend the in-person, please fill out the form and share a link to your video audition. If have any other questions about the audition process, please contact Libbie at libbiew@uark.edu with AUDITION as the subject of your email.

PLEASE NOTE: If you are cast in one of the productions, you will be enrolled in a 1 credit hour performance practicum course. The course will meet during the rehearsal dates listed above from 4:30- 8:30pm. This course will prevent you from enrolling in classes that have conflicting times.

AUDITION WORKSHOP: We encourage anyone who hasn’t participated in University Theatre auditions before to join us for an audition workshop in KIMPEL 404 on Friday, October 8th from 12:30-1:30pm. Bring your monologue to share for feedback or just come to hear what directors look for in auditions!
